No one wears an orthosis for fun. You only start looking for a product like an orthosis when there is something wrong with the functioning of your body: ‘the condition’. This usually leads to the start of the process: ‘the request for help.’
If you have questions about your body’s condition, contact your doctor. If a condition results in loss of function of an arm or leg, an orthosis can sometimes compensate (partially) for this loss of function.
The first doctor usually consulted for a condition is the family physician. If necessary, the family doctor may refer the patient to a specialist, such as a rehabilitation doctor, a neurologist or an orthopedic surgeon. This specialist will further investigate the causes of the condition and possible treatments.
An orthosis may sometimes be prescribed as part of the treatment. It is also possible that after treatment a functional impairment remains for which an orthosis is needed.
If the physician believes that an orthosis can contribute to the treatment, or that the orthosis can compensate (partially) for the functional limitations remaining after treatment, he prescribes this product.
Many orthoses are covered by health insurance. To claim the orthosis from the insurance company, the doctor’s recommendation is usually required.
Which orthosis is appropriate in your situation? This is determined using a selection protocol. Step by step we look at what condition your leg or arm is in, but also what your personal situation and needs are. In this way we can determine which solution we can best recommend for you.
The choice is then up to you.
No need to cast the leg or arm! At Ambroise, each orthosis is individually made using our photometric technology to ensure that the orthosis fits the client exactly, based on two or three photographs. Our software converts the photos into a digital drawing or mold with the exact contours and dimensions of the arm or leg. The photos can be taken at your home, at Ambroise or at a rehabilitation center.
Now that our work is done, you should gain confidence in the product with the help of a therapist. If the orthosis does not work well or if you have any questions, you can always contact us.
